Historical Timeline of MarketFare Foods

Over our history, MarketFare Foods has been an integral part of a number of highly regarded companies, taking the best of the best to become the know-how company we are today. Key landmark events mark our history.


1970’s

1974: MarketFare Foods’ current Fredericksburg, VA plant was established to manufacture proprietary food for the Southland Corporation and its 7-Eleven convenience stores.

1979: Salt Lake City, UT facility becomes part of the Southland Corporation.


1980’s

1980: The Phoenix, AZ facility broadened MarketFare Foods geographic base.

1985: Began operating as McLane’s Convenience Foods with corporate offices in Temple, TX.

Mid ‘80’s: Sonritos® brand of burritos was created.

1980’s: Smiley’s® branded line of sandwiches was introduced and became the 1st national frozen sandwich brand. Smiley’s eventually grew to be the largest frozen sandwich brand in c-stores and vending during the ‘80’s.


1990’s

1992: Old Santa Fe® brand of burritos, chimichangas, and chili & cheese sauces was created to address the growing demand for higher quality Mexican food in the convenience industry.

1999: MarketFare Foods, Inc. was born on June 21, 1999. Production facilities and corporate functions were acquired by Swander Pace Capital and Silver Ventures, both leading private equity firms with a focus and dedication to the consumer.


2000’s

2001: AllStars® brand created as a higher quality line of sandwiches and wraps.

2004: Bistro To-Go® brand first introduced as an innovative product offering
with The Right Touch of Gourmet™, including artisan breads and upscale deli meats.

2005: February 2005, the Bistro To-Go® Angus Cheeseburger introduced as MarketFare Foods’ entry into the popular gourmet burger marketplace.

March 2005, the line of 3 Bistro To-Go® Gourmet Wraps introduced to leverage a popular consumer trend: Chipotle Chicken Wrap, Philly Cheese Steak Wrap, and Beef Steak Fajita Wrap.

April 2005, the original Smiley’s line re-launched and positioned as a
line of 5 tasty value sandwiches for the dynamic $1 Store industry.
The tagline touts Value Never Tasted So Good™.

August 2005, MarketFare Foods leveraged the all-American appeal of its AllStars® brand with home-style inspired recipes and created the AllStars® HomeStyle Doubles™ line of 5 sandwiches with DOUBLE portions of meat for hearty appetites.

MarketFare is an award-winning company. Most recently we received the following awards of which we are very proud. It is a testament to the fact that know-how is our main ingredient.

Bistro To-Go® Triple Wedge sandwich was awarded the Convenience Store News’ Best New Product Award 2005. We are proud of our quality and the fact that we innovated a classic and made it better. Click here for more information related to BTG Triple Wedges.

The Bistro To-Go® brand was given another nod by the industry – this time directly from retailers! Our branded product was a finalist in the Convenience Store Petroleum’s Retailer Choice Award contest. Both the Bistro To-Go Triple Wedge sandwiches and our savory Bistro To-Go Angus Cheeseburger were given the honor.

2006: February 2006, Bistro To-Go® Shredded Pork Fajita Wrap introduced featuring savory shredded pork, black beans, sautéed green pepper strips, tangy salsa, and rice all in a special cilantro seasoning blend.

August 2006, another new wrap flavor for Bistro To-Go® - Guajillo Grilled Beef Steak Wrap featuring the savory flavor of guajillo peppers mixed with strips of beef steak, cheeses, Spanish rice, and fire roasted veggies.

November 2006, yet another new wrap flavor for Bistro To-Go® - Poblano Chicken Wrap featuring the savory flavor of poblano peppers mixed with grilled chicken breast, cheeses, Spanish rice, corn, and fire roasted veggies.
